Mahindra Thar 5-Door Spotted Testing For The First Time

- Mahindra will soon launch a 5-door version of the Thar.
- Likely to be powered by the same engine options as the 3-door Thar.
- Could be offered in a 5-seater & a 7-seater guise.
A 5-door Mahindra Thar has been long rumoured, and Mahindra & Mahindra also confirmed that a 5-door version of the new-gen Thar - which was launched in 2020 - is indeed in the works, in May, 2021. Now, the 5-door guise of Mahindra Thar has finally been spotted testing, confirming the launch timeline of the SUV.

The test mule sported identical tail lamps as the 3-door Thar and also had a tail-gate mounted spare wheel.
The test mule which was spotted had camouflage all over its body, but despite that, the design details that give the 3-door Thar its identity are immediately apparent on the 5-door guise too. The test mule sported identical tail lamps as the Thar, had a tail-gate mounted spare wheel, and a hard top roof. Overall, the design of the SUV remains same as its smaller sibling, but it is unlikely that the 5-door version will also have a convertible roof on offer.

The 5-door Mahindra Thar will most likely be offered with a hard top only.
It is likely that the 5-door Thar will stay mechanically identical to the 3-door version, and will get the same engine options, which include a 2.2-litre diesel which puts out 130 bhp at 3750 rpm and 300 Nm torque between 1600-2800 rpm, and a 2.0-litre petrol which delivers 150 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 300 Nm torque at 1250-3000 rpm. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and the 3-door thar gets 4x4 as standard across the range. It is possible that the 5-door unit may also have a 4x2 offering, and may also come with larger engine options, but we will have to wait until it is launched to know that for sure, which would likely be sometime towards the end of next year.
