New 2018 Hyundai Santro VS Rivals: Price Comparison

Hyundai has launched the brand new third generation Santro in India. Available with a petrol engine mated to either a manual or AMT gearbox and a CNG option, which is available only with a manual gearbox, the Santro targets a large section of the urban hatchback buying audience. The Hyundai Santro gets a 1.1-litre engine making 69 bhp of peak power and 99 Nm of peak torque in petrol guise or 59 bhp of peak power and 84 Nm of peak torque in CNG form. The Santro also offers first in class features such as rear AC vents, a big 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and best in class leg space. But all said and done, considering the fact that this segment is extremely price sensitive, let's take a look at how the new 2018 Hyundai Santro stacks up against its competition. For the sake of this price comparison, we have chosen the Santro's nearest rivals, the Renault Kwid 1-litre, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the popular Tata Tiago.

Renault Kwid Rs. 4.05 Lakh - Rs. 4.33 lakh Rs. 4.35 Lakh - Rs. 4.63 Lakh N.A.
Maruti Celerio Rs. 4.21 Lakh - Rs. 5.28 Lakh Rs. 4.97 Lakh - Rs. 5. 4 Lakh Rs. 5.16 Lakh - Rs. 5.28 Lakh
Tata Tiago Rs. 3.39 Lakh - Rs. 5.21 Lakh Rs. 5.04 Lakh - Rs. 5.63 Lakh N.A.

New Hyundai Santro VS Rivals - Price Comparison - Petrol Manual Variants

So let's start with the petrol manual variants. While the new Hyundai Santro gets five variants i.e. D-Lite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio get six variants each. The Tiago though gets a whopping nine variants in total! The Renault Kwid 1-litre only gets 2 variants here. The Santro and the Tiago are the most affordable in the range here with base model prices starting at Rs 3.89 lakh. The most affordable 1-litre Kwid (which is also the fully loaded model) starts at Rs 4.05 lakh while the base model Maruti Suzuki Celerio starts at Rs 4.21 lakh.

But where the Santro loses out on the likes of alloy wheels on the exterior, it has a lot more to offer when it comes to interior spec.

That said, as expected the Renault Kwid is the most affordable in the range at Rs 4.35-4.63 lakh. Coming in second is the Maruti Suzuki Celerio automatic priced between Rs 4.97-5.40 lakh. While the entry-level Tata Tiago AMT (priced at Rs 5.04 lakh) is cheaper than the entry-level Hyundai Santro (priced at Rs 5.18 lakh), the top spec Santro is slightly more affordable at Rs 5.46 lakh as compared to the Tiago's Rs 5.63 lakh.
