New 2018 Hyundai Santro VS Rivals: Price Comparison

Let's take a look at how the new 2018 Hyundai Santro stacks up against its competition in terms of price comparison. We have chosen the Santro's nearest rivals, the Renault Kwid 1-litre, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the popular Tata Tiago.

    Hyundai has launched the brand new third generation Santro in India. Available with a petrol engine mated to either a manual or AMT gearbox and a CNG option, which is available only with a manual gearbox, the Santro targets a large section of the urban hatchback buying audience. The Hyundai Santro gets a 1.1-litre engine making 69 bhp of peak power and 99 Nm of peak torque in petrol guise or 59 bhp of peak power and 84 Nm of peak torque in CNG form. The Santro also offers first in class features such as rear AC vents, a big 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and best in class leg space. But all said and done, considering the fact that this segment is extremely price sensitive, let's take a look at how the new 2018 Hyundai Santro stacks up against its competition. For the sake of this price comparison, we have chosen the Santro's nearest rivals, the Renault Kwid 1-litre, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the popular Tata Tiago.

    New Hyundai Santro VS Rivals - Price Comparison - Petrol Manual Variants

    So let's start with the petrol manual variants. While the new Hyundai Santro gets five variants i.e. D-Lite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio get six variants each. The Tiago though gets a whopping nine variants in total! The Renault Kwid 1-litre only gets 2 variants here. The Santro and the Tiago are the most affordable in the range here with base model prices starting at Rs 3.89 lakh. The most affordable 1-litre Kwid (which is also the fully loaded model) starts at Rs 4.05 lakh while the base model Maruti Suzuki Celerio starts at Rs 4.21 lakh.

    On the other side of the spectrum, however, the top spec Kwid is the most affordable at Rs 4.33 lakh. The Tata Tiago in its fully loaded spec is priced at Rs 5.21 lakh while the Maruti Suzuki Celerio ZXi (O) is priced at a slightly higher 5.28 lakh. The Santro is the most expensive of the lot here, with the fully loaded Asta model with all the bells and whistles coming in at Rs 5.45 lakh. But where the Santro loses out on the likes of alloy wheels on the exterior, it has a lot more to offer when it comes to interior spec.

    New Hyundai Santro VS Rivals - Price Comparison - Petrol Automatic/AMT Variants

    All four cars in the comparison here get AMT variants. While the Hyundai Santro, Renault Kwid and Tata Tiago each get two variants, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio offers a wider spectrum with four variants on offer. That said, as expected the Renault Kwid is the most affordable in the range at Rs 4.35-4.63 lakh. Coming in second is the Maruti Suzuki Celerio automatic priced between Rs 4.97-5.40 lakh. While the entry-level Tata Tiago AMT (priced at Rs 5.04 lakh) is cheaper than the entry-level Hyundai Santro (priced at Rs 5.18 lakh), the top spec Santro is slightly more affordable at Rs 5.46 lakh as compared to the Tiago's Rs 5.63 lakh.

    New Hyundai Santro VS Rivals - Price Comparison - CNG Manual Variants

    While the Hyundai Santro offers a CNG variant from the factory, the Tata Tiago and the Renault Kwid do not. On the other hand, however, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio does offer a factory fitted CNG option in their range. So let's see how these stack up in terms of price. Both cars are available in two variants each. The Hyundai Santro has priced between Rs 5.23-5.64 lakh for the CNG variants while the Maruti Suzuki Celerio pips it slightly priced between Rs 5.16-5.28 lakh.
