Next Generation BMW 3 Series Caught Testing

- The test mule is one of the early prototypes of the new-gen BMW 3 Series
- The car will share some of its style cues with the new-gen BMW 7 Series
- BMW is likely to unveil the production version in the second half of 2018
Even though the car is heavily camouflaged, it is clear that the new 3 Series will be more in lines with the carmaker's latest design philosophy. This means expect the new-gen BMW 3 Series to have more stylish and sophisticated looks along with some new feature offerings as well. While we cannot comment much about the new design and styling of the car with the all that camouflage, the new 3 Series is expected to share its design and style cues with the new generation BMW 7 Series.

New-Gen BMW 3 Series Rear
In fact, if you look up close, the lines beneath the camouflage of the front section hints at the similarities between the new 7 Series and the upcoming 3 Series. The car features a similar Kidney grille flanked by sleek curvy headlamps that flow into the grille design. The new bonnet appears to be more muscular and there is a new front bumper as well. Unlike the current generation model, the new 3 Series will sport a larger central air dam and air intakes on each side. The alloys used in the test mule are all black and will possibly not be a part of the production model.

New-Gen BMW 3 Series Cabin
The new-gen 3 Series is also expected to see some changes in dimensions. There are no specific figures yet, but the car will be a bit longer and wider than the current model and also have a longer wheelbase. While we do have an image of the new cabin as well, but is also largely camouflaged and seems like BMW is yet to put in a lot of work into it. The steering is very simple with no buttons on it whatsoever. The dashboard also features a stick out display, which is a bit bigger than the one in the current model and the audio system and knobs look similar to the ones used in the outgoing model. In fact the gear lever also remains the same.
There is no information on the powertrain options yet, but the new BMW 3 Series is likely to go though some considerable changes under the hood as well. The new 3 Series will be a 2019 model and the carmaker is expected reveal the car in the second half of 2018.
