No Fuel For Old Petrol, Diesel Vehicles In Delhi From July 1, Govt To Seize Vehicles

- Cameras installed at close to 500 fuel stations across Delhi
- CNG vehicles to be exempt from this crackdown as of now
- High frequency fuel pumps have been identified
Delhi is set to initiate a big crackdown on 15-year old Petrol and 10-year old Diesel Vehicles from Tuesday. The state transport department will take a slew of measures including not providing fuel to such vehicles, seize them and send them for scrapping. This is in line with the Supreme Court orders issued earlier which aim to reduce air pollution in the capital in the upcoming winter season.

Petrol pumps will maintain a log of all vehicles which are refused refueling
Across fuel pumps in the national capital, Automatic Number Reading Cameras (ANRCs) have been installed to identify all end of life vehicles. These cameras will scan number plates of all vehicles coming to the stations and alert the department which in turn will seize such vehicles and send them for scrapping. According to Delhi Traffic Police, many fuel pumps have already been identified where qualifying old vehicles are likely to come at a higher frequency.

Earlier this year, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) had issued directions for all NCR areas to stop providing fuel to end of life vehicles. NCR zones such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida and Ghaziabad will not see any action for now but from October 31, the plan will come into effect in all these areas too.
