Report: Mercedes Benz Developing Shooting Brake EQE

- The Shooting Brake will be basically a station wagon
- Its shape could mean it has better range
- It could be announced alongside the EQE SUV in October
Just like Porsche developed the Taycan Cross Turismo, now it seems Mercedes Benz is also going in a similar direction with the EQE, the E-Class electric equivalent at the Stuttgart-based stable. A shooting brake, crossover model of the EQE is being reportedly developed which will have a swooping hatch on the back. Now, already the EQE is quite aerodynamic with a drag coefficient of just 0.22 so the shooting brake could even be better than the EQS which has a coefficient of 0.20.
Considering the E-class has been an executive-class luxury sedan, the EQE is contextually sportier, but it is not in the same league as the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo models. Auto Bild reports that the EQE wagon model will be something between an EQE SUV and the EQE sedan. It is said there could be some chatter about this car in mid-October when Mercedes Benz is expected to launch the EQE SUV.
The EQE has already been launched and will soon even enter the US market. It produces 288 bhp which isn’t innovative by EV standards but there are also AMG models that produce up to 678 bhp and have a 0-100 km/h speed of 3.2 seconds.
The response to the EQ line of EVs has been lukewarm from reviewers who aren’t very satisfied with the hyper aerodynamic look of the new electric Mercs. The EQE Shooting Brake, as per the renders could break that cycle as it does look more attractive than most modern electric Mercedes Benz offerings.
