Mahindra-owned SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV that was showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo, was spotted on test in Chennai recently. Though rumours of the Tivoli's India launch have been doing the rounds for a while now, Mahindra is yet to confirm if the SUV will arrive here.
The Tivoli, which will be the second SsangYong car in India after the Rexton, measures 4,202mm in length, 1,798mm in width, 1,590mm in height, and sports a wheelbase of 2,600mm. It features SsangYong's new design, complete with a boxy profile, inspired by the XIV Adventure concept, large proportions, LED DRLs, LED tail-lamps, and alloy wheels.
Inside, the Tivoli gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel, semi-bucket seats, 3.5-inch touchscreen display, automatic climate control, foldable second row of seats, etc.. Other than a choice of three colours for the interior, SsangYong also offers Smart Steer function with 3 modes, namely Normal, Comfort and Sport. The SUV also gets ample safety features such as 7 airbags (front dual, driver's knee, and side and curtain), ABS, ESP with hydraulic brake assist, hill start assist, active roll-over protection, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
The compact SUV is likely to get both, petrol and diesel variants. While the former is likely to come powered by the 126bhp 1.6-litre e-XGi160 petrol, the latter may house the 112bhp 1.6-litre diesel engine under the hood. Transmission options will comprise an AISIN 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual.
While Mahindra is yet to make an announcement about SsangYong Tivoli's India launch, word has it that the SUV will arrive here towards the end of 2016 and will be priced between ₹ 9 lakh - ₹ 14 lakh. Upon its launch here, the compact SUV will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, and Renault Duster.
