  • UM Motorcycles re-open bookings in India
  • UM currently offers Renegade Commando and Renegade Sports S in India
  • UM will start deliveries of the bikes by August 2016
After taking a brief hiatus, UM Motorcycles has recently re-opened the bookings for the Renegade range in India. This time the American motorcycle manufacturer has also announced that the deliveries for these new bookings will take place by August 2016. First unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016, UM Motorcycles currently has the Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sports S on offer in India. While the former will cost you Rs. 1.59 lakh, the latter comes with a price tag of Rs. 1.49 lakh (Both ex-showroom, Delhi). Later on, UM plans to bring the Renegade Classic to India as well.

Even though both the bikes has already been launched India, deliveries haven't begun yet as UM Motorcycles is currently working on setting up its showrooms and distribution network. For its India operations UM Motorcycles has entered into a strategic, 50:50 alliance with UP-based Lohia Auto. In fact, production of the motorcycles is already underway at Lohia Auto's Kashipur facility in Uttarakhand for which the company has made an investment of over Rs. 250 crore. Moreover the company is also working on exporting these India-made motorcycles to other markets, establishing India as a production hub.

Coming to the cruisers, both UM Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sport S are powered by the same 279cc, single-cylinder, water-cooled engine that develops a maximum power output of 25bhp at 8500rpm and 21.8Nm of peak torque at 7000rpm mated to a 6-speed gearbox. But that is where the similarities end. Both in terms of design and styling the bikes are very different from each other. The Renegade Commando has been designed more in lines with the classic cruisers with its low-slung seating position and wide handlebars. Hydraulic telescopic suspension at front and spring at the rear make it an ideal cruising machine.

On the other hand the Renegade Sports S takes a more modern approach with its bold styling, flashy orange-black colour scheme, a large cowl and alloy wheels among others. As mentioned before UM will soon come with its third motorcycle as well - the Renegade Classic, which will also join the existing range.
