It was in June 2013, Lotus first announced that they would be entering the motorcycle business and they made it clear at the very beginning that the bike was going to be one crazy thing. Lotus Motorcycles is a joint project with Lotus racing partner, Kodewa of Germany as well as car designer Daniel Simon and the Holzer Group.
On one hand we have Kodewa, who is a the race car constructor behind Lotus' Le Mans and World Endurance programs and has been involved with DTM and Formula One racing in the past while on the other there us Daniel Simon, a former Volkswagen Group man, who was one of the key designers behind the Bugatti Veyron's shape and not to forget he designer of the 'Lightcycle' from Tron: Legacy.
It is as lethal as a combination got and just about 7 months after the announcement, the prototype of the world's first motorcycle to bear the legendary Lotus marque is now road registered and ready for action.
Kodewa has been granted a license to produce the motorcycle by Group Lotus. Christened as the C-01, the bike is powered by a V-twin engine while the body integrates carbon fibre, titanium and aerospace quality steel.
The C-01 motorcycle is not designed, engineered or produced by Group Lotus but is the result of a collaboration between motorsport veterans. There will be only 100 units produced and we know that a lot of superbike fans and collectors will want to own one of these.
The Lotus C-01 is powered by a 4 stroke, 2 cylinder V-twin engine which will be capable of producing 200bhp. The engine comes mated to a 6-gear jaw-type shift transmission. The C-01 has a clean main body, an extremely low side profile, a unique air intake, logical partline solutions and clean graphics.
If you are a maniac for two-wheelers, then this is right your alley. It's a 200bhp monster from Lotus and it looks absolutely brilliant!
