Pros Cons of Mahindra Marazzo

Pros

  • It has a spacious cabin which can seat seven or eight passengers in reasonable comfort.
  • The ride quality is comfortable over broken roads and long highway drives.
  • The 1.5-litre diesel engine offers good refinement and respectable fuel efficiency.
  • It has a four-star Global NCAP safety rating for adult safety only.
  • The roof-mounted air-conditioning keeps all three rows cool even in hot weather.

Cons

  • The diesel engine lacks performance when carrying a full load of passengers and baggage.
  • Buyers do not get the choice of an automatic transmission or petrol engine.
  • Mahindra rarely updates its Marazzo in order to keep it competitive.
  • Newer MPVs in the segment have more modern features than the Marazzo.
  • The exterior design does not look as attractive as some of the modern MPVs.

Verdict

The Mahindra Marazzo is a practical family MPV with a four-star GNCAP rating that is spacious, comfortable, and has a good ride quality. In fact, it remains one of the more comfortable people movers in its price and also makes economic sense due to its refined diesel engine.

However, it did not evolve with the needs of the segment. Plus, the lack of an automatic transmission, limited feature upgrades, and stronger competition from newer MPVs have made it a less attractive option over the years.

If one is looking to buy a basic MPV that is large, comfortable and safe enough for carrying a large family over long distances, the Marazzo is still a sensible buy. However, if you are looking for modern technology, multiple powertrain options, or a richer ownership ecosystem, there are better options in the market.

Pros Cons of Mahindra Bolero

Pros

  • Strong ladder-frame construction
  • Proven diesel engine with good low-end torque
  • Soft suspension suited to rough roads
  • Simple mechanical layout
  • Affordable entry price

Cons

  • Limited safety equipment
  • Side-facing third-row seats without seat belts
  • No automatic transmission option
  • Cabin materials feel dated
  • Engine refinement below modern standards

Verdict

The Mahindra Bolero is based on function over fashion. The recent updates enhance the equipment and comfort a little bit, but the core character remains the same. It still suits buyers who consider toughness, ability to carry loads and mechanical simplicity more important than touchscreen size or driving dynamics. The ride is still compliant, the engine has usable torque at low speeds, and maintenance is comparatively inexpensive.

If your usage is mainly urban and you are looking for a more polished experience, the Bolero Neo makes a better case. But if you are looking for a traditional, no-nonsense SUV that has earned its reputation over the past 25 years, the Bolero still justifies its existence in the Indian market.

Seshan Vijayraghvan sums it up clearly in our review:

“This is still a utilitarian SUV. The layout hasn't changed much, and Mahindra has kept it that way since that's what Bolero buyers expect.”
