Bajaj Sales Slow Down to 2 per Cent

- Bajaj sells 33.58 lakh units in FY 2015-16
- Overall growth is just 2 per cent from 2014-15
- 2016 might see 3 or 4 new launches
Bajaj had a busy 2015-16. Their last launch was the V15, which is slowly beginning to do well. Earlier in 2015, they had launched 8 new motorcycles in 2015. While the sales figures are one of the highest for a manufacturer in the two-wheeler segment, the growth has not been that great. Bajaj sold 2, 91,898 two-wheelers in April 2016, which is a mere 2 per cent growth over April 2015 where it sold 2, 85,791 units. The V15 is gaining traction as well. In February, 2016, it sold just 1,442 units while in March, 2016 it sold 16,532 units. A growth of almost 1050 per cent. There is no typo there. The 150cc Avenger is also featuring in the list of top 10 selling motorcycles as well. Over the last few months, the Avenger range of motorcycles is averaging sales of almost 20,000 units a month. Bajaj is gunning to achieve the 2 million mark and would ideally want to reach the magical figure by 2016-17. The Bajaj CT 100 sold 5.5 lakh units in the last fiscal, one of the highest gainers. The Platina ES sold around 2.7 lakh units while the Avenger range sold close to 1.75 lakh units in the last fiscal year.

In total, from April 2015 to March 2016, Bajaj sold just a few models shy of 19 lakh units domestically. At the same time, their export figures were pegged at approximately 14.6 lakh, bringing the grand total to a whopping 33.58 lakh units. The surprising thing is that these huge figures add up to just a 2 per cent increase from the earlier FY. While Bajaj might still be way ahead of others in the numbers game, the overall growth hasn't been as it would have expected. Nonetheless, there is always the next year. We might see a few new launches in 2016 such as the Pulsar CS 400 and the RS 400 along with the Pulsar 150NS as well.
