BMW Motorrad Shows Off Its Hover Ride Design Concept

- The Hover Ride Design Concept started out as a Lego replica project
- The flying bike concept is not fully functional i.e. it cannot fly
- The concept model was first showcased at Lego World in Copenhagen
It looks like BMW Motorrad and Lego Technic are having a lot of fun together. Please do not get us wrong. Earlier, the two had collaborated and came out with a rather lovely Lego model of BMW Motorrad's iconic R 1200 GS Adventure motorcycle. Not being content with that, the design teams of both these companies have now created something called as the Hover Ride Design Concept.
Well, it all started off as a Lego model concept inspired from the Lego replica of the BMW R 1200 GS. With the same 603 pieces of the Lego Technic Replica of the BMW R 1200 GS, one can also build a Lego Technic model of the Hover Ride Design concept. Yes, it is a 2-in-1 Lego kit.
(BMW Motorrad Hover Ride Design Concept)The boffins at BMW Design were so enamoured by the Lego model of the Hover Ride Concept that they took it upon themselves to actually create a Hover Ride concept that could fly. The models are as realistic as possible, with exceptional attention to detail. One can see the tele-lever front suspension and the twin-cylinder boxer engine too.
"It was a great idea and a superb creative challenge to develop a fictitious model from the parts of the LEGO Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure set. Our concept not only incorporates the BMW Motorrad design DNA with typical elements such as the boxer engine and the characteristic GS silhouette, it also draws on the LEGO Technic stylistic idiom," says Alexander Buckan, Head of BMW Motorrad Vehicle Design.
(BMW R 1200 GS Adventure LEGO Model)The time is not far when airborne personal transportation devices will be made. Of course, BMW's Hover Ride Design Concept is not functional at the moment, but the first step has been taken, BMW says. The Hover Ride Design Concept was first showcased at the Lego World in Copenhagen a few days ago. It will also be showcased at other important BMW Motorrad centres in Europe.
