Brembo Brake Recalls Expands To MV Agusta

- Brembo brake recall now affects MV Agusta bikes
- Certain Aprilia and Ducati models have already been affected
- Brembo will replace the faulty brake master cylinder free of cost
The Brembo master cylinder recall, which has affected motorcycles from Ducati and Aprilia, has now expanded to include MV Agusta motorcycles as well. MV Agusta has added the F4 superbikes to the list of recalled motorcycles which are affected by the Brembo front brake master cylinders. The MV Agusta recall affects 27 units and the issue is with the radial master cylinder unit made of plastic, which can develop a crack and lead to front brake failure. MV Agusta dealers will replace the plastic piston with an aluminium part, free of cost.

The cause is that a certain number of Brembo master cylinders with 15 mm and 16 mm pistons, made of PPS (polyphenylene sulphide) master cylinder can potentially crack when used excessively on a racetrack or with regular ABS intervention. The recall is due to a fault in the manufacturing process of the affected master cylinders which were sold between 2015 and 2017.

The first set of recall was issued for 2016-17 Aprilia RSV4 and the 2017 Aprilia Tuono 1100 models in the US. Ducati also has issued a recall for a number of its models which use the Brembo brake set-up. Ducati will be recalling approximately 8,000 models, ranging from 2015 to 2018, including the 1299 Panigale, Panigale R, Monster 1200, Multistrada 1200, Multistrada 1260 and XDiavel S. Ducati will be starting the recall from February 15, 2018. More manufacturers who use Brembo brakes on their high-performance bikes are expected to be affected by the issue in the next few months.
