F1: Carlos Sainz Jr Wishes To Be Partnered With Fernando Alonso

- Alonso has always been close to Sainz and his father
- Alonso was the inspiration for the young Spaniard to enter F1
- Sainzs father is also one of the greatest rally drivers of all time
Carlos Sainz Jr has been impressed with Ferrari ever since starting this year. He has impressed most of all the drivers who have switched teams in 2021 despite having limited testing time. He also scored the second-most points apart from Sergio Perez who admittedly has had better machinery. In fact, at the halfway stage of the season he has outscored his immensely talented teammate Charles Leclerc, who trails him by 3 points, though would've probably been leading him had it not been for his twin retirements in Monaco and Hungary.
He shares a wonderful partnership with the Monegasque driver and even when he was at McLaren he shared an excellent bond with Lando Norris with whom he continues to be friends. But the one driver he wishes to be partnered with is his mentor, Fernando Alonso who became the first Spaniard in the sport to win world titles in 2005 and 2006.

Alonso is not only close to Carlos but is great friends with his legendary father, Carlos Sainz Sr who is one of the all-time greatest WRC drivers. "I get along well with all the drivers on the grid and I wouldn't mind being Fernando Alonso's teammate. But given that we are at different stages of the career and we race for different teams, the chances are pretty slim," said Sainz Jr, acknowledging the fact that the former world champion is perhaps now in the final phase of his F1 career and is unlikely to make a return to Ferrari with whom his exit was quite acrimonious.
Ferrari also has a legion of drivers waiting in the wings thanks to its excellent driver academy including Michael Schumacher's son Mick Schumacher. Leclerc is also contracted till 204, while Sainz himself is contracted till 2022. Alonso is also likely to be getting a drive at Alpine. But regardless of what happens, Sainz has naturally called his mentor the driver he wishes to be paired with most. Alonso is the only driver in the history of F1 who is yet to be outscored by his teammate.
