F1: Hamilton Goes Fastest in a Red Flag Hit FP2 of the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix

As the FP2 session at the Belgian Grand Prix went underway, all eyes were on Lewis Hamilton and whether or not he would be able to seek revenge. Having run off the track twice in the first session, Hamilton looked calm and composed behind the wheel and he seemed to learn from his mistakes.
Lewis Hamilton comfortably set the fastest time of FP2 of 1:49.189, which put him over 0.6s clear of team-mate Nico Rosberg. Hamilton was on the soft compound tyre and with the grip on offer, he gunned for it.
Yet again in third position was Fernando Alonso, who was in the same position in FP1. However, the session was twice halted by red flags; once for a crash for, no points for guessing here, Pastor Maldonado and the other for when Esteban Gutierrez spun out
Maldonado drifted onto the grass on the run down to Pouhon, which seems to have created quite a lot of problems for the drivers. He lost control and spun to hit the wall on the inside of the circuit, with no technical problem. The car was heavily damaged which meant that he would have to sit out for the FP2 session.
Gutierrez on the other hand had a high-speed spin at Blanchimont which ended his running. Team Sauber said that a technical problem caused the incident which also left the car stranded to bring out the red flags for a second time.
However, both drivers got more track time than Sebastian Vettel, as he faced problems with his car just after completing 11 laps in FP1. Red Bull will require to change a power unit and this meant that he didn't complete a single lap in FP2.
Rosberg and Alonso were the only drivers within a second of Hamilton as Felipe Massa for Williams but he was 1.1s off the pace. Jenson Button again saw himself in the top 5 ahead of Valtteri Bottas, Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.
Max Chilton returned to drive his Marussia in FP2 after Alexander Rossi had been in the car in the first session. Rossi was set to complete the full race weekend before Chilton was drafted back in.
FP3 and Qualification will be the talk of the day tomorrow and there will be a lot of strategies spoken of. We will get you all the details as they happen.
