Hamilton will be smirking with the result of the first Free Practice session of the last grand prix of the season as he topped the time charts by setting a time of 1:43 476s. It was for the 58th session that Hamilton has set the fastest time. However, the fight between the two Mercedes cars is far from over; Rosberg was right behind him with 1:43.609s.

Fernando Alonso, though third on the charts, was nearly 2 seconds shy of the time set by the two Mercedes cars. Vettel's 4th with 1:45.334s was followed by team-mate Ricciardo. Interestingly, Vettel faced issues downshifting and let his engineers know albeit vociferously.

Jean Eric Vergne and Kvyat were in 6th and 7th place while Bottas, Perez and Hulkenberg rounded up the top ten. Williams struggled with the bodywork of both, Massa's and Bottas's car, as the engine cover came off on the track.

Jenson Button faced a huge problem because of which he could not make it to FP1. The second Free Practice session starts in a little more than two hours from now and we will be sure to bring you the latest updates.
