F1: Rosberg Edges Hamilton in FP1 at the German Grand Prix

Nico Rosberg edged out team-mate Lewis Hamilton by just 0.065s during the First Practice session at the German Grand Prix. With the track temperature at Hockenheim hitting 46 degree, the Mercedes pair yet again proved that Mercedes was the fastest on the track. However, just like in the British Grand Prix, a couple of weeks back, where the crowd was behind homeboy Hamilton, Hockenheim was all for Rosberg.
Hence it came as no surprise when Rosberg set a best time of 1:19.131 as teams ran without FRIC suspension systems following the FIA's technical directive last week. Hamilton too was on a fast lap but there was more than one occasion where he aborted his fast lap and finally ended up putting in a lap time of 1:19.196. Yet again it was the Ferrari who was third fastest and within 0.3s of the Mercedes pair.
Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was fourth fastest ahead of Jenson Button. Ricciardo showed yet again that he had the quickest Red Bull on the circuit. 0.4s slower than Ricciardo was Sebastian Vettel while Kevin Magnussen was the only other driver within a second of Rosberg as he finished the session seventh.
Kimi Raikkonen, Daniil Kvyat and Adrian Sutil completed the top ten. Sutil showed good pace today but there was a moment when a piece of bodywork flew off the car at high speed approaching the Turn 6 hairpin, which might have the Team Sauber a bit worried.
But all eyes were on the Williams driven by Susie Wolff. She hardly got to complete a lap at Silverstone and Hockenheim was the place for her first outing in the FP1 session. However, it yet again wasn't the best of starts to her session as she suffered a problem on her installation lap which saw her head back to the pit lane in first gear.
It looked like another disappointing day for Wolff, but Williams was able to rectify the problem quickly and she was able to complete a total of 22 laps, with a best time of 1:20.76 leaving Wolff just 0.227s slower than team-mate Felipe Massa.
