General Motors India announced that it will recall a total of 1,01,597 units of the Chevrolet Beat diesel variant. The cars that have been recalled have been manufactured between December 2010 and July 2014. According to the company, it is the clutch pedal lever that will need inspection and if found faulty will be replaced free of cost.

The company has already started notifying the owners of the Beat diesel variant and is asking them to take their cars to the nearest Chevrolet dealership. According to the manufacturer, there is a possibility that the clutch pedal lever could crack on continued usage.

There have been no accidents or damage of any kind reported due to this problem yet and Chevrolet says that it's taking preventive action by issuing a recall of the Beat. The Beat is available in petrol, diesel as well as LPG and the company has put in a lot of effort to make this car a good offering in the hatchback segment.

"Quality and care are our highest priorities and we are committed to putting customers at the center of everything we do. If we foresee a potential issue, we ensure that it is corrected as soon as possible, as part of our complete commitment to customer satisfaction," General Motors India said in a statement.

Under the hood, the Beat comes equipped with a 1.0 XSDE SMARTECH engine that gives it 56bhp and 142.5 Nm of torque. The small engine capacity also makes it very fuel efficient and the Beat manages to return 25.44km/l making it one of the most fuel efficient diesel cars in India.

Chevrolet has already started contacting its customers but the owners can also contact the nearest Chevrolet dealership and get an appointment to fix the clutch lever. The part will be replaced free of cost at all Chevrolet dealerships across India.
