Hyundai owned premium car brand Genesis, has unveiled an EV based on the E-GMP platform. It is a crossover based on the GV60 for which it has shown off the interior and exterior design. Genesis has also added a camera-based side mirror system, though chances are by the time the car makes it to production, it will be a mirror-based system thanks to regulators.

Overall, the design is very aerodynamically efficient. There is also good headroom on the roofline though it slopes downwards pretty dramatically behind the passengers. Interior wise, it gets a wide display extending from the steering wheel to the central console, probably combining the virtual instrument cluster with the infotainment panel. It also gets screens on the A-pillar which is for the side view again these may not make it to the production-spec build.

Genesis is also showcasing its crystal sphere shift knob. This was a feature that was first seen in the Genesis X concept EV. It has a shift by wire system and it also unlocks some performance options in the vehicle. By the looks of it, there is also a lot of space in the central console region.

It has quite a lavish interior

As for the platform, it uses the same skateboard as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which is based on the E-GMP platform co-developed with Canoo. The platform is so good that even Apple wanted to acquire this expertise from Canoo. Hyundai has been making EVs using the Ioniq brand and Kia, however, Genesis was also supposed to join them by 2021 and this could be the first step towards that.

Genesis has also shown an electric version of its G80 sedan which will be its first EV but that car isn't based on the E-GMP platform. Instead, it will be the GV60 that will be the first one to use the new skateboard.
