Honda Navi Not Discontinued, Company Says Model Being Upgraded

The Honda Navi is not being discontinued. Recent reports online suggested the Navi was being silently phased out, citing zero production for March 2018. However, sources at Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) have told CarAndBike that the Navi is very much on sale and has not been discontinued. That said, sources do admit that the model's production has been slowed down, but it's a temporary process. The Honda Navi is very much available for purchase at with dealerships accepting bookings for the same. The real reason why the little bike has seen a break in production is to usher in an updated model. The new Navi is expected to build on the same one, but will likely offer a little more power, more features and higher mileage claims, according to one source close to the development. They also say that the company's design department is developing even more customisation options - some of which would be offered as inclusive of the bike's ex-showroom price. Two new colour schemes are also expected.

The Honda Navi had kicked up quite the storm when it first arrived in 2016, even winning the NDTV Two wheeler of the Year 2017 award. But the model hasn't been a brisk seller despite the aggressive pricing and quirky looks, when compared to other scooters from the manufacturer. Designed completely by Honda India, the Navi shares its underpinnings with the Activa scooter, including the frame and 109 cc engine. But its design inspiration came from the Honda Z series (better known globally as the Honda Monkey) instead. Comparisons have also been drawn to the Honda Grom, but while both those models build on motorcycle platforms, the Navi as we said does not. The Navi has also practically remained the same since its launch; barring the necessary upgrade to BS-IV emission norms. So a refresh for the moto-scooter could well help its flagging prospects.

In its outline for the 2018-19 financing year, Honda has announced upgrades to 18 models in its portfolio and the Navi is likely to be a part of this list. The company has also confirmed that an all-new two-wheeler is in the offing for this financial year. However, details for the same are under wraps. HMSI had four launches last year, which included the Cliq scooter, Africa Twin, Grazia 125 and the X-Blade 160.
