MotoGP: Honda Racing Signs Joan Mir For A Two Year Contract

Honda Racing Corporation has announced that it has signed 2020 MotoGP world champion Joan Mir for a two-year contract. Mir will be switching from Suzuki Ecstar to Honda after the former announced its intention to exit MotoGP at the end of this season. Mir's teammate Alex Rins has been signed on by LCR Honda for a seat in 2023. The 24-year-old rider will be racing alongside Marc Marquez at Honda and will be replacing Pol Espargaro, who moves to KTM Tech3 next season.

Joan Mir is currently placed 12th in the riders' standings with 77 points 

Speaking about joining Honda, Joan Mir said, "I'm very excited to officially announce that I will join the Repsol Honda Team next year. Thanks to HRC for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to defend these historic colours, which are full of history and world titles. We will take advantage of all my experience accumulated over the years in MotoGP with Suzuki to contribute as much as possible to the project and to fight together to become world champions again. Now it's time to continue focusing on my recovery to return to the circuits as soon as possible and have a great end of the season with Team Suzuki Ecstar."

Joan Mir has had a prolific career so far having won the Moto3 title in 2017 followed by the MotoGP world championship in 2020 that he won with Suzuki. His record includes 12 Grand Prix wins and 33 podiums to date. Mir will be riding the RC213V next season. He is currently placed 12th in the riders' standings with 77 points behind Maverick Vinales.
