Odd Even Rule: Violators Will Not Be Allowed to Park in Delhi

While the government is yet to provide clarity about the possibility of towing vehicles in violation of the rule, the city's police is determined to make movement difficult after a fine has been issued. According to the government's orders, vehicles found to be in violation will not be allowed to enter or exit parking lots maintained by Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Delhi Cantonment Board, and municipal bodies.

As far as the fine related to the odd even formula is concerned, commuters who flout the rule will be issued a fine of Rs 2,000 and will be required to present a copy of the challan every time they are flagged by the cops that day. One must note, though violators can not be fined twice in one day, if they are still found on the road two hours after the fine is issued, they will have to present an explanation.

To enable implementation of the odd even rule, several offices and residents' associations have arranged car-pools. In fact, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, carpooled with the Transport Minister and Health Minister. The Tourism Minister, Kapil Mishra, rode a motorcycle to work, while the Environment Minister, Imran Hussain, used an autorickshaw.
