Malaysia's state-run oil firm, Petronas has reportedly launched a new clean energy company called 'Gentari' as part of its global push to produce carbon-free energy. The subsidiary firm, which is wholly owned by Petronas, will help the company deliver renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility solutions, and it will aid in achieving its long-term goal of becoming a full suite net-zero solutions provider. Right now, Petronas is the world's fourth-largest exporter of liquified natural gas (LNG) and plans to step up investment in hydrogen and expand its portfolio in renewable energy.

Gentari has said that by 2030, it wants to build a renewable energy capacity of 30-40 gigawatt (GW) particularly in solar and supply up to 1.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of hydrogen. The company also aims to capture a 10 per cent share in the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem across key markets in the Asia Pacific, especially in Malaysia and India.

Right now, the company's existing assets and projects include more than 1 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of solar capacity in India and Malaysia, a pipeline of clean hydrogen projects, as well as more than 220 EVs.
