Remote Parking System - How It Works?

Parking can be a tough task if you're a new driver. It is even tough for experienced drivers at times to park in high-density areas. A remote parking system assists drivers in parking accurately. This technology saves on the time and effort that goes into parking in tight spots. Such driving assist technologies are in high-demand, and for all the right reasons.

What is remote park?
A big leap in automation, the remote parking is an addition to a car's regular mechanisms. It accurately parks the car without any manual inputs. This means that the driver can get out of the car at a better spot and instruct the software to park the car in the right parking spot. Additionally, while getting inside the car, the driver can instruct the car to get out of the parking spot and get back to the dropping point. This makes parking convenient and minimises the risk of accidents, dents or scratches.

How does the technology work?
The technology enables the car to self-park. However, it needs some instructions and handling in most cars. Here's how the system works:
- Proximity sensors fitted around the car sense the objects around.
- The driver has to send instructions to the car through a remote to help the system activate. Once the sensors are on, the driver can move the car forward and back and steer remotely.
- The system also assists the driver in acceleration and breaking. When the sensors sense danger from nearby objects it steers the car away from them. Hence, though some manual input and machine assistance, the car can be easily parked.
- Many automatic parking assistance systems can also function with minimal input. However, some assist in avoiding objects and walls.

Progress in remote parking technology
Automatic parking technology has been developed to make parking a dream. Top auto manufacturers like BMW and Hyundai have introduced several models that have this feature. And Nissan has also introduced a similar technology, patented under the name of ProPILOT assist. Such developments not only make these cars more desirable, but also increases customer loyalty based on innovation. But while parking assistants in these cars are semi-automated, Tesla cars have taken it a step further. A Tesla can drive automatically and reach where the driver is standing as long as the range is limited to 200 meters.
While several luxury and premium car models have the self-parking feature built-in, it can also be fitted in separately. Further advancements in the technology will enable cars to auto park without any manual assistance and from longer distances.
