Best Driver's Cars You Can Buy In India Under Rs. 1 Crore

- Here are top 6 performance focused car under Rs. 1 crore
- The price of these cars range from Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 1 crore
- Here's a mix of hatchbacks and sedans
We are fast approaching an era where cars are turning into tech devices. From technology being developed around a vehicle, we are now seeing cars that are built around modern tech concepts. And that has left us with cars that don’t have character anymore. However, some brands are still trying to keep some of that spark alive with vehicles built for the pleasure of driving. And, if you, too, are looking for something that speaks to that driver in you. Something that’s also on a relatively achievable budget, then here’s a list of the best driver-focused cars under Rs. 1 crore.
Since I am talking about cars with character, this list only consists of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Now, we did a similar article earlier this year in May, however, since then, a few new models have entered this price segment and some have exited it. There’s a mix of hatchbacks and sedans, but no SUVs, and all of these vehicles come at an ex-showroom price that’s under Rs. 1 crore.
Top 6 Driver’s Cars Under Rs. 1 Crore
Skoda Octavia RS
Price: Rs. 49.99 Lakh (Ex-Showroom)
The newest addition to the performance car space in India marks the return of the Octavia RS moniker. Built on Volkswagen's MQB platform, the new-gen Octavia RS is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TSI petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission that does a fine job at sending power to the front wheels. The motor churns out 261 bhp and 370 Nm of torque and can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 6.4 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 250 kmph.

It gets sharp styling, a long line of sporty black and red accents, and a vibrant palette of colour options that will help you stand out on Indian roads. Sadly, Skoda only brought 100 units of the car to India in the first lot, and all of them have been booked. So, either check with your nearest dealer or wait for the next lot.
Volkswagen Golf GTI
Price: Rs. 50.91 Lakh (Ex-Showroom)
If you want something similar to the Octavia RS but also smaller and a bit compact, then the Volkswagen Golf GTI can be your pick. It’s a two-door hatch, possibly the most popular VW after the Beetle. This too packs the same 2.0-litre TSI motor, making the same 261 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. This too is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic unit, and while there is no all-wheel drive here, you do get an XDS electronic front differential lock.

MINI Countryman JCW
Price: 64.90 Lakh (Ex-Showroom)
A MIMI with a John Cooper Works (JCW) badge is always special, and recently, we got the JCW-tuned Countryman in India. Yes, JCW Cooper would have been a more ideal pick, but the Countryman also packs in a lot of punch. It’s also the first ICE version of the new-gen Countryman to come to India.

Under the hood, you have a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor good for 296 bhp and 400 Nm, and it’s paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The MINI also offered what the first cars in this list don’t, an all-wheel drive system. MINI claims a 0-100 kmph time of 5.4 seconds and a 250 kmph top speed.
Audi S5 Sportback
Price: Rs. 73.14 Lakh (Ex-Showroom)
If you want a driver’s car that also comes with big brand value, then the Audi S5 Sportback is also something you can consider. And with this, you enter the Rs. 70+ lakh segment. It is a few years old in the market, a capable car nonetheless, especially if you are looking for a V6.
Under the hood, you get a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 that belts out 349 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. The automatic torque converter sends power to all four wheels with the aid of Audi’s highly capable quattro system, with a 40:60 front-to-rear split.
BMW M340i
Price: Rs. 73.95 Lakh (Ex-Showroom)
However, if you want something a bit more updated and popular among car enthusiasts in India, then the BMW M340i will be a better choice. It has become one of the more popular performance luxury cars in India, all because it’s a very sorted package.

Here you get a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine that produces 369 bhp and a similar 500 Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, and here you get BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. The AWD unit is rear-biased, which enhances the drive feel and also explains the need for a slightly fatter rear tyre.
Mercedes-AMG C43
Price: 94.05 Lakh (Ex-Showroom)
Want something with a bit more brand value? Or want more performance but do not mind having some electrical assistance? Then the Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC should be your pick. It gets a proper AMG-built 4-cylinder engine, paired with an electric turbocharger with a mild hybrid unit. A combination of mechanical and electrical performance.

Under the hood, you get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is handcrafted under the 'One Man, One Engine' philosophy. The motor replaces the previous 3.0-litre V6; however, despite the considerable drop in displacement, the engine makes 14 bhp more compared to the older unit, courtesy of the electric turbocharger. Result - the car’s total power output has gone up to 402 bhp from 388 bhp, whereas the torque output stands at a healthy 500 Nm.
