Skoda Auto Targets Selling Over 5000 Units Per Month In India By June 2022

- Skoda Auto is relying on its new launches to achieve its target.
- The new MQB-A0-IN localised platform also helps in competitive pricing.
- Skoda Auto has shifted its focus towards turbo petrol offerings.
The India 2.0 project is very crucial for the Volkswagen Group in our market. It marks the beginning of the second inning for the German marquee in India and Skoda Auto has taken charge of the turnaround. Now that certainly means both carmakers are looking to up their volume game in our market and that will not only help the brands with more realisation, but also will improve their market share. For the next year, Skoda Auto is trying to sell at least 5000 units per month individually, while Volkswagen will follow its own sales target.

The new Skoda Superb commands 30 per cent of the market share in the segment.
Skoda also has a very clear strategy to go for its target which involves shifting focus on petrol models which will be powered by the TSI engines. Hollis said that diesel cars don't make a solid business case nowadays due to high maintenance cost and the narrowing gap between petrol and diesel prices. The carmaker is also betting big on the new MQB-A0-IN platform which enables Skoda and Volkswagen to offer locally manufactured models at a competitive rate. The Skoda Kushaq is the first model underpinned by the MQB-A0-IN platform and will be joined by the Volkswagen Taigun, both models will have 95 per cent of localisation levels.
