Auto Expo 2018: Honda Civic Showcased

Honda has been eyeing the premium segment and the Accord with the hybrid powertrain made its way to India in 2016. But at the Auto Expo 2018, the company showcased the 2016 version of the Civic, which reinforces our belief that the company will launch the car in India. The Civic has been a big hit for the company in India ever since its launch here in 2006. It was in production till 2013 and saw a couple of facelifts before it went out of production. Globally, the Honda Civic is offered in three body types - Coupe, Sedan and Hatchback, and India gets the sedan version.

The current-generation of the Civic was first introduced in 2015 and went on sale in the US and the European markets as a 2016 model and India will probably get the same version while the rest of the markets will launch the facelift version. Globally, the Civic is offered with a host of engine options - 1.5-litre i-VTEC Turbo engine and 2.0-litre i-VTEC, 16-valve, port-injected, inline 4-cylinder engine. There are also the 3-cylinder, 1.0-litre i-VTEC Turbo petrol engine and 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine in the European markets. While we wished the Civic Type R would also come to India, the 315 bhp churning model will not make it here yet.
The Honda Civic comes with sporty design language with stylish LED headlamps, bold character lines, sporty alloy wheels, and LED taillamps among other standard and optional features; all of which are reminiscent of the Accord. The new Civic comes with a nice fastback-like look at the rear with the rear C-pillar flowing into the tailgate, which is accentuated by the prominent tail lamps. The face of the Honda Civic features a new chrome wing design that flows across the top of the headlamps.
We expect it to be priced between Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh and upon launch, the car will rival the likes of the Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis, and the Volkswagen Jetta.
