Bahrain F1 Grand Prix: Its Mercedes 1-2 as Rosberg gets 1st Pole position of 2014

After having won two pole positions in the first two races, Hamilton looked fast enough to make it a hat-trick and sit right in the front row again. However, it was team-mate Rosberg who looked in fine form and crossed Hamilton's time to win his first pole position in 2014 with a time of 1:33.185.

Highlights

It looks like no one can catch the Mercedes team this year and they proved yet again at the Bahrain International Circuit this weekend. After having won two pole positions in the first two races, Hamilton looked fast enough to make it a hat-trick and sit right in the front row again. However, it was team-mate Rosberg who looked in fine form and crossed Hamilton's time to win his first pole position in 2014 with a time of 1:33.185.

Rosberg is followed by team-mate Hamilton who went second fastest while Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo went 3rd fastest. However, he received a 10-place grid penalty following an unsafe release from his third pitstop at the Malaysian Grand Prix which put him in 12th place. This help push Bottas of Williams to 3rd place followed by Force India's Sergio Perez.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen is placed 5th while McLarens Jenson Button went 6th fastest. Button is followed by Felipe Massa, Magnussen, Alonso and Vettel who complete the top 10 on the grid.

With Mercedes blocking the front row completely, it will be an interesting race as Perez will want to get that first podium finish for Force India and so will Bottas for Williams.
