CES 2022: Sony Mobility Announced With New Electric Vision-S Concept SUV

- The new Vision-S SUV is a 7-seater and has over 40 sensors integrated
- It uses technology from Bravia, PlayStation and Sonys audio divisions
- Sony is exploring the commercial launch of its EV with Sony Mobility
One of the highlights of CES 2020 was Sony's foray into electric cars - with the Vision-S concept car that was manufactured by Magna. However, at the time, Sony was coy and said it was just a showcase of a suite of technologies that it brings to the table which can be leveraged by its automotive clients. Come CES 2022, it is not coy anymore as it has announced not only a new Vision-S electric SUV concept (7-seater) but also announced the formation of Sony Mobility Inc which will focus on bringing out electric cars leveraging the Japanese giants' expertise in AI, robotics, entertainment, sensors, gaming, and display technologies.
"We are exploring a commercial launch of Sony's EV," said Kenichiro Yoshida, the company's chairman, president, and CEO. Sony has even released a concept movie that gives a glimpse of the lifestyle one can experience in one of these cars. Sony shows off remote driving over 5G connecting the car from Japan to Germany in real-time.

Sony has now unveiled a new Vision-S SUV and Sony Mobility
It is a well-known fact that Sony had been testing the first edition of the Vision-S concept on the road in partnership with Magna. Now, this new concept car features a total of 40 high sensitivity, high resolution, wide dynamic range CMOS sensors and LiDAR sensors derived from Sony's industry-leading camera unit - that give accurate 3D spatial awareness to the car.
In addition, the new SUV comes with 5G connectivity, Sony's 3D spatial audio technology, and also PlayStation and Bravia IPs integrated via a digital service that will work on top of 5G leveraging. It uses the same platform that's been used on the Vision-S sedan concept considering that's gone through all kinds of road tests.
