DeLorean Shows Off 3 Concepts Inspired By Science Fiction

DeLorean, the car company that became a household name after the “Back To The Future” movies in the 80s is back. It is launching the electric car called the Alpha5 which promises 482.5 km, but before it settled on the Alpha5, its CEO Joost de Vries revealed there were other concepts which were aptly named Alpha2, Alpha3 and Alpha4. Now, DeLorean is showcasing these concepts which have been clearly inspired by decades of science fiction and are a way for the company to say, “ this is what the alternative future could’ve looked like”.
It is an ode to the “Back To The Future” franchise. The Alpha2 for example is a concept of a car from the 1990s which DeLorean admits is a “complete departure from the legacy design of the DMC-12”. Some believe that it has elements of the C4 Corvette in this small coupe style.
All of this of course fictional and DeLorean is talking about what could’ve been in an alternate future. The Alpha3 for example is a very futuristic sedan which would’ve launched in the mid-2000s, perhaps arriving around 2006. This car would’ve beaten Tesla with an all-electric power train by 6 years. It also hets massive gullwing doors and a flat roof that swoops towards the back giving it a station wagon-type vibe.
The Alpha4 is an SUV which would’ve launched around 2013. This one is based on a hydrogen fuel cell power train and looks rather standard and if it were to be compared to a modern car, it could’ve been the Fisker Ocean which is launching later this year.
There is also the DMC-24 concept that was designed in 1982 which forms a sleek wedge-shaped four-seater sedan. This car was actually the original Alpha and was a car that was in development and would’ve launched had DeLorean not gone bankrupt.
