Development of Grand Theft Auto 6 In The Works Confirms Rockstar Games

It´s happened at last! Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally in the works, according to an announcement by its developer, Rockstar Games. Meanwhile we have all grown almost a decade older waiting for it to come out. First launched in 1997, GTA is one of the most popular video game series with millions of copies sold across the world. While GTA 5 is still considered to be one of the best-selling video games, the wait for the next GTA edition has been nine years, so far, and counting.

The official announcement was made in a community update post on the Rockstar Games´ News Wire that a new Grand Theft Auto game is under development.

"With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series," the post reads. "With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details."

This isn´t the first time that Grand Theft Auto took time to launch a new version of the series. There was a 5 year waiting period between GTA 4 and GTA 5 and as mentioned earlier, it´s been even longer for GTA 6. Of course, one of the many reasons cited for the delay is the continuing popularity of GTA 5. In any case, the announcement makes no mention of a tentative launch date. Rumours suggest that it is not likely to happen before 2024 which means that there is a strong possibility that it won't be released on PS4 or Xbox One.
