- Many Indian cars have been discontinued over the years due to poor sales
- Here is a closer look at many of these models from leading Indian brands
- Some of these were solidly equipped cars but failed to strike a chord
Many Indian and foreign brands have tasted success with diverse car models in the country. However, it is not always that a car model goes on to hit the big-time. Along with the success stories, there are often many cars which fail in this highly demanding and competitive automobile landscape. Here's taking a closer look at some discontinued cars that failed to set the sales charts soaring in India.

- Volkswagen Ameo- The Ameo has been discontinued and it initially came with a lot of promise for Indian buyers. A competitive price point for a quality sub-4m sedan seemed to be a winning proposition from Volkswagen. However, the company later saw that customers were keener on stretching a little more for their more successful Vento sedan. The Ameo looked smaller and a mini derivative of the Vento, leading to buyers continuing to opt for the pricier sibling.
- Mahindra Verito Vibe- While the Mahindra Verito has done a mixed job in the Indian market over the years, the Verito Vibe failed to ignite the sales charts. It is one of the few sub-4m models to choose a hatch design and sported a unique structure which some feel was ahead of its time. It failed to catch on in the market.
- Renault Koleos- This one was unsuccessful in catering to market demand, with its hefty price point. However, it did come with several premium features and a stylish design. However, this luxury vehicle failed to cut much ice with local buyers back in the day.
- Ashok Leyland Stile- The Evalia from Nissan was rebadged and unveiled by Ashok Leyland. This venture did not succeed at all for various reasons, chief being the lack of consumer demand in the mainstream passenger car space.
- Maruti Suzuki Kizashi- The Maruti Suzuki Kizashi was a luxurious car with premium features, smooth ride quality and an appealing design above all else. This luxury sedan was naturally one of the biggest launches from Maruti Suzuki earlier. However, it did not gain traction owing to its high price point, which was not accepted by traditional Maruti Suzuki buyers.
