Highlights

An electric racing car developed by 30 students at ETH Zurich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts recently broke the world record for acceleration in electric cars. Christened 'grimsel', the car accelerated from 0 to 100Km/h in just 1.79 seconds, 1.785 seconds to be precise, thus breaking the previous record of 2.134 seconds, which was held by an electric car built by Delft University of Technology.

Interestingly, the Formula Student team at the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ) developed and built the car in less than a year. The team set the new record at the military airfield in Dubendorf, where the vehicle reached a speed of 100 km per hour in less than 30 metres.

Delving in to more details, the 'grimsel' weighs 168 kg and puts out about 200bhp. It features a carbon fibre construction, a four-wheel drive with four specially designed wheel hub motors, which develop a total torque of 1630Nm.
