- This is the first scooter model from Okinawa Autotech Pvt Ltd.
- It has a manufacturing facility in Bhiwadi
- Okinawa will bring in more E-Scooter models in the current year
Okinawa Autotech Pvt Ltd. an electric two-wheeler manufacturer launched its Ridge E-Scooter in India at a price of Rs. 43,702 (Ex-showroom, Delhi). This is the first ever product from Okinawa, which started its business operations in 2015. The scooter gets an 800 watt electric motor, which can propel it to a maximum speed of 55 kmph and allow a range of 80-90km. The Ridge comes fitted with alloy wheels, tubeless tyres and drum brakes. Up front it gets telescopic suspension and a fully digital speedometer. It has the capacity to carry a load of up to 150kg. A slight drawback is that with a maximum speed of over 40 kmph, the Okinawa Ridge will need to be registered and insured like any other petrol-powered two-wheeler. Currently, the company has achieved around 65-70 per cent localisation in the manufacturing of the Okinawa Ridge.
(Okinawa Ridge)Commenting on the beginning of their operations, Jeetender Sharma, MD Okinawa Scooters said, "Being an Indian company, our vision is to be a leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer by offering a solution to the daily commuting needs of the average person. We aim to empower all our stakeholders through products that add to their lifestyle without subtracting anything from the environment. By making technology and nature ride together, Okinawa is poised to create a revolution in India's transportation space. We promise never-seen-before performance standards and are driven by our motto of 'Power the Change' in each and every component of our vehicles. They run fast, are great to look at, come at extremely affordable prices and are a big ray of hope to curtail the amount of environmental degradation."
The company plans to invest around $40 Million over the next three years in order to expand its operations across the country. The company operates 24 dealerships presently and plans to open 450 dealerships across the country in a phased manner over the next three years. At present, Okinawa Autotech has a facility in Bhiwadi, where it can produce 90,000 units a year with a single shift working in a day.
Okinawa Autotech plans to bring in 3 electric scooter models every year and will also look at manufacturing E-Motorcycles in the near future.
