Ford showed a demo of an experimental version of its Vehicle 2 Vehicle (V2V) communication technology for the first time at the 2014 Computex expo. The company used two Ford Kuga SUVs for this live demonstration.
The technology equipped in both the cars showcases how the two cars exchange data including speed, location, predicted path and potential hazards. The system uses a Wi-Fi based radio transmission, which according to the American car maker improves a car's ability to recognise hazards before it can 'see' them.
Most of the current generation of hazard perception systems rely on radars or cameras and can only survey the immediate area but with this new V2V technology, the system can 'borrow' data from other cars in the area, even when they are out of sight.
The V2V system forms part of Ford's Blueprint for Mobility, with Vehicle 2 Infrastructure (V2I) technology also under development from the 'Blue Oval'.
Technology from the 2015 Mustang is also on display which includes 'track apps' with real-time statistics, MyKey, launch control and tyre-pressure monitoring.
