How To Deal With Car Brake Failures?

- When you put the hazards on, the nearby cars will leave you some space
- Pumping the brake pedals might push them to work again.
- The emergency handbrakes will gradually slow down your car's pace
One fine day, when you are driving at top speed, you suddenly realize that the brakes are not functioning correctly. It's a scary situation, right? There can be several reasons why your car brakes are failing.
Whatever be the case, you should prep yourself for such a dire situation. We've created a guide on steps to take when your car brake fails! Read ahead to make sure you are well-prepared for such cases!
Keep Calm, and Don't Panic!
One of the natural reactions, when you push the brake and find out that it's not working, is panic! However, panicking should be the last thing you should do. Try to keep your mind calm so that you can control the situation.

Switch on Hazards
The first thing to do is to switch on hazards. Doing this will notify other drivers that something's wrong with your vehicle. When you put the hazards on, the nearby cars will leave you some space, which can help you at the time.
Downshift
Step three is downshifting the vehicle to a lower gear to help your car lose much of the speed. You should also make sure that you downshift to appropriate gears. Make successive downshifts to avoid harming the car's engines. Note that automatic cars have paddle shifters that allow easy downshifting.
Pump the Car Brakes
You might think that pumping the brakes during this situation might be a useless move. But sometimes, the trick works. Pumping the brake pedals might push them to work again. If not wholly stopping the vehicle, performing this step might help you slow down. Try to do this a couple of times before moving on to the next steps.

Try to Park on Side
If you don't want the situation to worsen for you and other vehicles, it is essential to take your car to the side. Especially during fast-moving traffic, this situation can end up in a mishap.
Slowing down or the erratic movements of your vehicle can cause accidents. Moreover, the uneven ground on the side might be helpful to decrease the speed of the car.
Use Emergency Hand Brakes
One of the things to remember before using the emergency hand brake is not to use it in a jerky manner. Jerking the emergency brakes can cause your vehicle to skid. You should hold the level rightly, press the putting, and gradually pull the brakes. The emergency handbrakes will gradually slow down your car's pace and finally bring the vehicle to a halt.

It is common for people to panic in this situation. Once you successfully find help, make sure to get your car inspected by a professional!
