How to Maintain Your Diesel Car

- Many brands have both petrol and diesel variants
- There is always a rift between which is better
- If you have a diesel car then there are a few tips to take care of
It is said that if you add to that the fuel rate difference between the two, it has always been Rs. 10/litre and for big tank fuel guzzler, diesel as fuel does matter. Therefore, all of these make diesel a very tempting prospect as a car. We also know that Honda learnt it the hard way when it lost a lot of markets owing to the absence of diesel engines from their portfolio and had to give in finally and make diesel engines. The first diesel engine or car they manufactured was the i-DTEC diesel engine which now does rounds in its current offerings. However, in a market like India, there's a fair share of both petrol and diesel on the road. It's no secret that petrol heads argue that diesel engines tend to die out early and are eerily high on NVH levels and need regular maintenance to keep going. We don't know anything because at the end of the day we all love our diesel cars and on this topic, we will talk about how to maintain our diesel cars.
Changing your driving practices:
Let's talk about Ignition first. In diesel engines, you don't have spark plugs and ignition relies totally on battery power so it becomes all the more important to use minimal of the car's electrical. One diesel engine needs to build some initial heat to work optimally because most cars now come equipped with a preheating mechanism and all you need to do is wait for the preheat indicator to go off. Engage during ignition as this helps lessen the load on the starter motor, which has the work of kick-starting the heavy diesel engine to life.

Service and General Maintenance:
Regular services should be done every once in a while so that your car can juice up and it doesn't only apply for diesel cars. At least quarterly service should be done. Check the tyre pressure because that vastly impacts the kind of performance you get from the engine. Lastly, fuel check is the golden rule about maintaining your diesel is to never let the engine run dry on fuel. If the engine runs dry; without fuel, the engine will stall and fuel pump will stop working. Dry fuel can cause a lot of problems with your car's engine.
