Kia EV6 To Be Available With Rear-Wheel-Drive Option In India

- Kia EV6 to be available solely in GT-Line spec
- Will be available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants
- Equipment on offer to include standard ADAS features
Kia is set to commence accepting bookings for the new EV6 from May 26 with only limited numbers available in the first batch. As we had previously reported the first batch is limited to just 100 units with India getting the GT Line model only. However, the EV6 GT Line will not be limited to just an all-wheel drive variant. As per a leaked brochure, Kia's electric car will be available with two powertrain options – rear-wheel drive (RWD) and the more powerful all-wheel drive (AWD). Both powertrain set-ups will be paired with a 77.4kWh battery pack with the RWD model pushing range up to 528 km (WLTP) on a single charge. The AWD has a shorter range of up to 425 km courtesy of its more power-consuming dual motor set-up.

The EV6 also packs in a lot of tech with only some key features being the major differences between the RWD and the AWD. Standard equipment includes twin 12.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen, powered and ventilated front seats, driver seat memory, dual-zone climate control, auto wipers, adaptive Led headlamps, connected car tech, 64 colour ambient lighting and a sunroof. The AWD model will additionally pack in an augmented reality heads-up display, powered tailgate, pop-out door handles and a 14-speaker Meridian sound system.

On the safety front, 8 airbags, ABS, ESC, multi-collision braking, and hill start assist will be standard as will be Kia's suit of ADAS features. ADAS features will include forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keep assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.

In terms of specifications, the EV6 RWD features a single permanent magnet synchronous motor putting out 226 bhp and 350 Nm. The AWD uses a dual motor set-up – one on each axle – to develop a combined 320 bhp and 605 Nm. The EV6 is expected to be available in five exterior colours – Moonscape, Snow White, Runway Red, Aurora Black and Yatch Blue. The EV6 will arrive as a CBU import in India with prices expected to be north of the Rs. 50 lakh mark.
