KTM 390 Adventure Spotted Testing

- The KTM 390 Adventure is likely to be unveiled at the 2017 EICMA
- Its design seems to take inspiration from the KTM Enduro R
- In India, it will face competition from the Royal Enfield Himalayan
The latest spy shots of KTM's mini-adventure bike have emerged right after a string of manufacturers unveiled their mini-ADV bikes at the EICMA show in November, including the BMW G 310 GS, Kawasaki Versys-X 300 and Suzuki V-Strom 250. And now, with the spy shots of the under-development KTM 390 Adventure, there seems to be no doubt that KTM will now join the mini-ADV bike bandwagon as well.

From the looks of the spy shots, reportedly taken outside KTM's test facility in southern Europe, the KTM 390 Adventure will take design inspiration from KTM's Enduro R, but is more likely to be launched eventually as an adventure bike rather than an enduro bike. The engine is expected to be the same as that of the KTM Duke 390 - a 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled engine that makes around 43bhp power and 35Nm of torque. The engine on the 390 Adventure may be tuned for more power and torque lower in the revs.

Looks wise, the bike looks minimalistic but the design seems inspired from the KTM Enduro R, particularly the front fender. The long travel suspension is likely to have around 180mm of travel and the spoked wheels are also larger than the Duke 390 - possibly getting a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear. The swingarm is all-new too and looks beefier, compared to the 390 Duke.

The KTM 390 Adventure is expected to be quite the game changer in the mini-ADV market, not just globally, but in India as well. So far, only Royal Enfield has an adventure bike in this segment with the Himalayan. Once launched, the KTM 390 Adventure will compete against the likes of the Royal Enfield Himalayan and BMW G 310 GS.
