Maruti Suzuki YRA Hatchback Spotted Testing
Maruti Suzuki India that is all set to launch the S-Cross in the country in the first week of August, will then bring its much-awaited premium hatchback - the YRA (code-name) - to rival Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. The company has, in fact, started testing the vehicle, and a recent test mule was recently spotted by one of our avid readers Anchit Chauhan around Delhi. Since it's a global product, the Japanese carmaker will launch it in several markets along with India.

Just so you know, the vehicle had made its debut as a concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The displayed model had a 1.0-litre, direct-injection turbocharged petrol motor, which is based on Suzuki's 1.0-litre K-series engine. Though for the Indian market, the company might use a more powerful version of the Swift's 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine and the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine.

The vehicle is based on Suzuki's new-generation platform that is designed to efficiently increase rigidity while reducing its weight via redesign of the under-body structure and optimising overall vehicle design including parts mounted on the under-body.

With 4023mm length, 1920mm width, 1450mm height and a wheelbase of 2520mm wheelbase, the vehicle will be the most spacious hatchback in its segment. Though the concept model had 18-inch tyres, we expect the production-ready model to get 15-inch wheels as standard across all variants.
