Maruti Suzuki's Electric Wagon R Prototype Spotted Testing

Maruti Suzuki India is currently testing its electric cars in India, and that is in no way a secret. In fact, the company openly announced and flagged-off its electric vehicle fleet for on-road testing in India this October, and we have now come across spy photos of one of these test mules. The car, of course, is in no way camouflaged, in fact, on the contrary, it comes with 'Electric Vehicle' printed all around it with graphics and decals to go with the theme. Maruti's electric vehicle that is on the test is based on the new-gen Wagon R, which was unveiled early this year, and the launch of the production model is slated for some time in 2020.

Maruti Suzuki Electric car is based on the new-gen Wagon R sold globally
Maruti Suzuki India is currently testing fifty prototype electric vehicles across India which have been developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan, built at the company's Gurugram facility in Haryana, as part of the company's make in India commitment. Maruti is doing extensive real-life testing of the vehicles across multiple terrains and climatic conditions to get valuable insights into the long-term of sustenance of these cars. This will also help the company gauge what kind of electric vehicle is suitable for the Indian market.

(The EEVs have been developed by Suzuki Japan, but built by Maruti Suzuki in Gurugram)
The specifications and other technical details about the car are still unknown. Having said that, the car will be using Lithium-ion battery pack, and the technology for the battery has been developed in collaboration with Toyota and Toshiba. More details, however, will be revealed closer to the launch of the electric vehicle.
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up to launch the petrol-powered version of the new-generation Wagon R, which is slated to be introduced in January 2019. However, the car coming to India will be different from the one sold globally, in terms of design and styling.
