Mitsubishi Teases All-New Compact SUV Ahead Of Geneva Motor Show Debut

- Mitsubishi will showcase the SUV in Geneva on 7th March 2017
- The SUV will take inspiration from XR-PHEV II concept and the eX concept
- The SUV will be revealed alongside the Mitsubishi ASX & new-gen Outlander
The 2017 International Geneva Motor Show is less than a couple months away and we have already told you about what all you can expect to see this year. While several new models are expected to break cover, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has something very interesting to showcase this year. The carmaker has released the first teaser image of its long-awaited compact SUV, which will be the first of a new generation of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles to be unveiled on 7th March 2017.
So, if you are a Mitsubishi fan and have been following their work for some time now, then you'll find that the silhouette in this teaser is very much similar to the XR-PHEV II concept and the eX concept that were showcased in the last couple of years. According to the information shared by Mitsubishi, the carmaker will reveal its new striking and sporty, coupe-like SUV alongside the Mitsubishi ASX and new-gen Mitsubishi Outlander, which will take its place in Mitsubishi's lineup between those two SUVs.
While we still await an official announcement from the company, this upcoming compact coupe SUV is rumoured to be christened 'Eclipse', as a salute to the iconic sports car that the carmaker dropped from its lineup in 2011. That said we would like to reserve our opinion on that until the official word comes out in March.
In terms of design and styling, the upcoming compact coupe SUV will have a lot of similarities to the aforementioned concepts. This means the car will employ an aggressive stance, beefy features, bold character lines and stylish equipment. Up front, the compact SUV will feature the distinctive Mitsubishi grille like the XR-PHEV II concept. The highly chamfered contours with a wedge-shaped beltline and there is also a distinctive V-line in the rear quarter stemming from the forward-slanted C-pillar and the chunky, muscular rear fenders.
Specifications and powertrain option will be revealed only during the global debut of the car at the 2017 International Geneva Motor Show. So watch the space for more information about this new mystery compact SUV from Mitsubishi.
