New Triumph Scrambler 1200 Spotted Testing

- Upcoming 1200 cc Triumph Srambler spotted
- Longer travel suspension, 12-inch front wheel seen on advanced prototype
- Triumph Scrambler 1200 expected to be unveiled at EICMA 2018
Triumph Motorcycles seems intent on introducing yet another modern classic in its Bonneville range, and this time, it's expected to be a 1200 cc Bonneville-based Scrambler which the British motorcycle manufacturer seems to be working on. Spy shots of an advanced prototype doing test runs have emerged, hinting to the introduction of the bigger Scrambler. The engine of the new model is expected to be the high-torque version of the Bonneville 1200 cc, parallel-twin, which powers several models in the Bonneville family, including the Bonneville T120, Bonneville Bobber and Bonneville Speedmaster.

Upcoming Triumph Scrambler with 1200 cc engine spotted doing test runs
Now, Triumph already has a Scrambler in the Bonneville series, but that's the Street Scrambler, which shares the 900 cc parallel-twin engine with the Street Twin and the Bonneville T100. The Street Scrambler has ride-by-wire throttle, ABS and traction control, but the bigger 1200 cc Scrambler may get additional riding modes as well, including in all probability an "off-road" mode as well. We can take a guess, that the spy shots are indeed of an upcoming Scrambler with a bigger engine, because the spy shots reveal Brembo monoblocs on the front wheel, rather than the single-pot caliper on the Street.
The test bike also has long travel suspension, possibly with over 200 mm of suspension travel to give it more off-road capability than the current Street Scrambler, which has conventional forks and twin rear shocks with just 120 mm of suspension travel. The new Scrambler 1200 will have Showa upside down forks and Ohlins twin-shocks fitted to a new swingarm which looks longer as well. Also new is a large 21-inch front wheel (the current Street Scrambler has a 19-inch front wheel). There's no word on when a full-fledged production model is expected to be introduced, but we expect the bike to be unveiled sometime around EICMA 2018, that would put it around November, with an official launch by the end of the year.
