ProPILOT With Navi-link - Modern Cruise Control Technology

- ProPILOT is Nissan's version of cruise control.
- ProPILOT with Navi-link adds new enhancements to it.
- It significantly increases driver comfort.
Nissan's ProPILOT with Navi-link signifies the evolution of cruise control technology. Like so many other features that are accessible on Nissan cars, this one too enhances the overall comfort of the driver, thus increasing their confidence. To put it simply, ProPILOT with Navi-link helps single-lane driving on a highway and further enhances cruise control by linking itself to the car's navigation system. That definition makes it hard to understand this technology, so we're going to explain it in detail.
What is ProPILOT?
ProPILOT is Nissan's very own cruise control system that can be used by a driver when driving in a single lane on the highway. It essentially assists in acceleration, braking, and steering operations and sets the car to drive itself at a particular speed set by the driver. However, it's nothing like Tesla's Autopilot, since the driver will eventually need to change the speed setting or deactivate the system in case there is a change in the speed limit, a car appears in front, a sharp curve lies ahead, or there's any other such obstacle. But still, ProPILOT comes in incredibly handy when one is driving on an almost-empty highway.

If there is a change in highway speed limit or an approaching curve, then ProPILOT with Navi-link adjusts accordingly. And it does that by linking itself to the car's front camera and the navigation system. When there's a change in the speed limit of the highway, the car automatically sets the new speed for ProPILOT to adhere to. And if there's a curve approaching, the Navi-link system instructs ProPILOT to decelerate corresponding to the size of the curve so that the driver can swerve the vehicle easily. This way, there is no need for the driver to turn ProPILOT on and off repeatedly, as the system does that by itself.
How does this system work?

ProPILOT works by detecting lane markers and the vehicles driving ahead of your car by employing the car's front camera and radar. This allows it to control the acceleration, braking, and steering with an aim of keeping the vehicle centred in the lane while also maintaining a pre-set distance from the preceding vehicle.
As for ProPILOT with Navi-link, as we said, the system relies on road data obtained through the navigation system. The system either looks at road signs or navigation data to identify the speed limit at any particular area of the highway. As soon as this information is processed, it instructs ProPILOT to change the speed. The road data obtained through the navigation interface helps the system identify the size of the curve ahead. Based on its calculations then, the ProPILOT system reduces the car's speed temporarily to safely navigate the turn.
ProPILOT with Navi-link is just one of the many comfort features that form part of modern Nissan cars. These include a nifty Chassis Control technology as well as the Intelligent Display Interface, which offers maximum information in a minimal manner.
