Renault Kwid Launched; Prices Begin at Rs. 2.56 Lakh

Manufactured at Renault India's Chennai based facility, the Kwid is the first product built on the CMF-A platform which has been jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. Just so you know, the similar platform will also underpin some of Datsun's upcoming cars.
In a bid to make its presence felt in the segment that's mainly dominated by the country's top two carmakers, Renault India has tried to keep its cost under-check by achieving over 98 per cent localisation. Besides the competitive pricing, the other thing that goes in Kwid's favour is its SUV-ish look that has helped it create quite a buzz in the market. Though to keep its cost down, the company has kept the Kwid devoid of safety features such as passenger side airbag and anti-lock braking system (ABS). As a matter of fact, only the top-of-the-line variant gets an airbag and that too as an option. That said, the vehicle comes with several class-leading features such as 300-litre boot space, 180mm ground clearance (even better than many pseudo crossovers), and a 4.1-inch touch-screen infotainment system among others.
