Tata Nano Electric Spotted Testing for the First Time

- The Tata Nano spotted testing had an electric charging point
- The electric motor will be positioned at the back of the Nano
- A launch timeline is yet to be shared by Tata Motors
This is for the first time the Tata Nano electric version has been caught in the streets and visually there is no difference compared to the standard petrol version, save for what looks like a charging point on the left rear side corner of the car, just above the wheel arch. That said, one can make out the difference between the wheel arch and tyre is reduced compared to the standard model, which shows the load taken by the car's suspension.

The Tata Nano Electric gets no visual changes save for the charging point
Going by the spy shot, the electric motor will be positioned at the rear, while the battery pack will move up front. This will not only to retain the rear wheel drive layout, but also help improve the centre of gravity on the model. Complete technical details though are sketchy at the moment.
It would be interesting to see how Tata Motors will be positioning the Nano electric version. While we expect to see a considerable price hike over the standard version, the small car could just might be a practical choice for those looking at full sized electric vehicle on a budget. In fact, the India car maker can also tap the potential in developed markets with better infrastructure for EVs, especially since the e2o is already exported to several markets.
Tata Motors is yet to share any details of the Nano electric, and it would seem far fetched to even discuss the timeline of launch on the new model. With the company working on overhauling its passenger vehicle segment with a host of new models in the pipeline, this project will certainly be something we would be looking forward to.
