The need for enhanced safety aids on cars has been increasingly pressed upon, especially in the west. So much so that now toy cars for children are being equipped with electronic aids to make them safer and more crash protected. Well, that's what toymaker Fisher Price is offering with its new Ford Mustang 'PowerWheels' Ride on Car that gets traction and stability control as part of the standard kit. Believe it or not, this toy car has more safety aids than the average hatchback sold in India.
The Fisher Price Ford Mustang PowerWheels is a battery operated ride on car, in which children can sit and operate the toy. The toy is based on the 2016 Mustang and replicates the design very well. As for the safety features, the toy actually comes loaded with traction control which can monitor for wheel slip and adjust motor speeds to help keep the car going over wet grass or bumpy terrain. You also get a tilt sensor that switches off the motors when an unsafe angle is detected to prevent rollovers, essentially stability control. Furthermore, you get a LED touch interface to change speed and check charge level.
The PowerWheels Mustang also comes with V8 sound effects, which should make the drive even more enjoyable while children cruise at a top speed of 8 km/h. If that's not enough, the young drivers get auxiliary connectivity as well; you know, to play the top 10 chartbusters for kids playlist.
Meanwhile, the original Ford Mustang is now available in India priced at Rs. 65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine tuned to produce 395bhp of power at 6500rpm and develops 515Nm of torque at 4250rpm. The motor comes paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard. The American pony also happens to be the most affordable V8 to be sold in the country, and we had great fun with it when we drove the car earlier this year.
The Fisher Price PowerWheels Ford Mustang will go on sale in the US in December this year and is priced at $359.99 (around Rs. 26,600 excluding taxes), which clearly doesn't make it any cheap. What it really does though is making a lot of adults envious of their kids. That said, if your child is a car nut, this just might be the perfect Christmas gift.
