India's Safest Cars As Per Global NCAP

The Global NCAP safety ratings are now taken seriously by consumers not just across the world but also in India. A look at the top-10 safest cars in India as per this rating will throw up not one but multiple surprises indeed.

Mahindra XUV700
The Mahindra XUV700 is the latest entrant into the list of the safest cars in India. The newly launched premium SUV from Mahindra & Mahindra has successfully garnered a 5-star safety rating in its Global NCAP crash test results. The XUV700 had its weight lowered by approximately 110 kg for getting this 5-star rating, which was ensured through the usage of plastic composites and high-tensile steel for the tailgate and also the unique design of the SUV. The Mahindra XUV700 gets a wealth of safety features, and this latest Global NCAP rating is only a feather in its cap.

Tata Punch
The Punch mini-SUV has already started strong after its launch, becoming the fourth India-made vehicle and the third from Tata Motors to get the 5-star crash test rating courtesy of Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP). The Punch had 16.45 out of 17 as its adult occupant protection (AOP) score. It got 5 stars in this category along with 4 stars in terms of protecting child occupants.
Mahindra XUV300
The Mahindra XUV300 was the third India-made vehicle to get 5 stars in the crash tests. It got 16.42 points for AOP while child protection scores stood at 37.44 out of 49.
Tata Altroz
The Altroz has already garnered 5 stars in its crash test, getting 16.13 as its AOP score out of 17 and 29 points in child occupant protection. It is one of the safest cars in India today.
Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon has also achieved a 5-star crash test rating, making history while doing so in end-2018 as the first India-made car to accomplish the feat! It scored 16.06 out of 17 by way of AOP while the child protection score stands at 25 out of 49 points.
Mahindra Marazzo
Mahindra & Mahindra hit it big on the safety count when they launched their Marazzo MPV. This got a 4-star crash test rating, scoring 12.85 out of 17 points in the AOP category and 22.22 points in the child protection category.
Volkswagen Polo
This premium hatchback also notched up an impressive four-star rating in the crash tests conducted by the Global NCAP. It got 12.54 out of 17 for AOP and 29.91 points (three stars) for child occupant protection.
Mahindra Thar
With a 4-star crash test rating, the Thar is one SUV that has gained more traction amongst Indian buyers. It scored 12.52 in the AOP category while getting 41.11 points for child occupant protection, the highest in this category for any Indian car tested under Global NCAP.
Tata Tigor
This is another 4-star rated vehicle in terms of safety. Along with an impressive crash test rating, the Tigor also notched up 12.52 points (AOP) and child occupant protection scores of 34.15 points (three stars).
Tata Tiago
Another Tata Motors model to successfully score a four-star rating in crash tests, the Tiago also got 12.52 points out of 17 in the AOP category while picking up 34.15 points for child occupant protection.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
This compact SUV got a four star rating in its crash test along with AOP of 12.51 and a child occupant protection score of 17.93 points.
