Top 10 Upcoming Electric Bikes And Scooters To Watch Out For In 2022

The electric two-wheeler industry is booming, and 2022 promises to be an exciting new year for the two-wheeler EV segment. From several highly-anticipated electric scooters, from established brands, and even mainstream powerhouses like Hero MotoCorp and Suzuki India, 2022 promises several new electric motorcycles as well, a few of them high-performance and sporty electric bikes. More performance, increased range, as well as better features and technology will be the buzzwords for the electric two-wheeler industry in 2022. Here's a look at some of the upcoming electric scooters and electric motorcycles that are likely to make their debut in India in the coming year. The list here is based on reader interest and not necessarily the most affordable, or the two-wheelers with the best features and performance.

The Ultraviolette F77 electric motorcycle will be launched in the first quarter of 2022, and is one of the most highly-anticipated electric motorcycles in India.

Possibly one of the highly-anticipated electric motorcycles, the Ultraviolette F77 is in the final stages of testing and production will commence sometime in the first half of 2022. The F77 is a 'made in India' high-performance electric motorcycle with a 0-60 kmph claimed acceleration timing of 2.9 seconds, and a top speed of 140 kmph. With a claimed range of 150 km, the F77 is a smart and connected electric motorcycle with remote diagnostics, over-the-air (OTA) updates, regenerative braking, multiple ride modes, bike tracking, ride diagnostics and several other features. TVS Motor Company has led funding for Ultraviolette Automotive, and the company says the latest Series C funding will be used for the production and commercial launch of the F77 electric motorcycle.

The upcoming Hero MotoCorp electric scooter was shown briefly at the company's anniversary celebrations earlier this year.

India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer by volume, Hero MotoCorp will be entering the electric two-wheeler segment in 2022, with an all-new electric scooter. The company has already trademarked the Vida name, which is expected to be a new vertical for electric mobility and Hero MotoCorp's EV range. Details on the new electric scooter are scarce at this stage, but we expect Hero to incorporate battery-swapping technology, following a partnership with Taiwan's Gogoro in April 2021. The upcoming electric scooter was teased in August, but looks unlike any of Gogoro's current EV models. More details are expected at the time of launch, expected around March 2022.

The Suzuki Burgman Street electric is expected to get a similar design as the petrol-powered sibling.

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) has been testing the electric version of the Suzuki Burgman Street scooter, and from spy shots that we have seen, the Suzuki electric scooter seems almost production-ready. So far, no details are available on the performance and features of the Suzuki Burgman Street electric, but we expect it to be a feature-packed electric scooter, with a top speed of nearly 80 kmph, and range of over 75 km. The scooter is likely to be launched in early 2022.

The Hero Electric AE-47 electric motorcycle was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020.

The Hero Electric AE-47 will be the brand's first electric motorcycle, and will be powered by a 4,000 W electric motor, with a claimed top speed of over 85 kmph. The AE-47 has a lightweight portable lithium ion 48V/3.5 kWh battery, and can be charged fully in four hours. The AE-47 has two modes - in Power mode, range is claimed to be 85 km on a single charge, while in Eco mode, the estimated range is 160 km on a single charge.

Production of the Oki100 electric motorcycle was delayed by the pandemic, and will now be launched in 2022.

Okinawa Oki100 Electric Motorcycle

The Oki100 electric motorcycle is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2022. It will be a high-speed electric motorcycle, with a removable lithium-ion battery and a fast charger. The Oki100 will have a centrally mounted motor and will offer top speed of between 100-120 kmph, and maximum range of around 200 km.

Okinawa is known to be working on several new models at its manufacturing unit, including the upcoming Oki90 electric scooter.

The Okinawa Oki90 will be one of the first few products from Okinawa to be launched in early 2022. Like the Oki100, it will be a high-speed EV, with 90 kmph top speed and 175-200 km range.

The Emflux One will be a high-performance electric motorcycle, with performance equivalent to a supersport class sports bike.

Emflux Motors unveiled its electric sportbike, called the Emflux One, way back at the Auto Expo 2018, and its production has been pushed back, and lately, hit by the pandemic. The bike though is still on the cards, and could be launched sometime in 2022. The Emflux One has a top speed of 200 kmph with an acceleration of 0-100 kmph in just 3 seconds. The Emflux One is a full-faired electric superbike with top-of-the-line components like Brembo brakes with dual-channel ABS, single-sided swingarm, Ohlins suspension and fully connected smart dashboard with artificial intelligence capabilities.

Prevail Electric which makes the Elite, the brand's top-spec electric scooter, is also working on a premium electric motorcycle to be launched in 2022.

Prevail Electric, a Gurugram-based new electric vehicle start-up is working on a new electric motorcycle which will come with a range of 350 km. The new high-performance electric motorcycle will come in two variants, one with 120 kmph top speed, and a more powerful variant with 180 kmph top speed. Prevail Electric is a new Gurugram-based electric vehicle start-up.

Komaki Venice electric scooter has been teased by the company, and it's likely ti be launched by January 2022.

Delhi-based electric vehicle manufacturer Komaki Electric Vehicles will be launching its new electric scooter, to be called the Komaki Venice. The Venice will be a high-speed electric scooter and will available in a range of 10 different colours, and will be launched at an affordable price. The electric scooter will come with new-age features like regenerative braking, a repair switch, as well as mobile connectivity, and will be the perfect blend of modern technology and iconic style.

The Komaki Ranger electric motorcycle will have styling which can be identified with heavyweight all-American cruiser motorcycles.

Komaki Electric Vehicles will also be launching its first electric cruiser motorcycle in January 2022. The Komaki Ranger, as it will be called, will offer a range of 250 km on a single charge from its 4 kW battery pack, said to be the largest battery pack in an electric two-wheeler in India. The Komaki Ranger will come with a 5,000 W motor that will offer very good performance, the company has announced. In addition, the Komaki Ranger will get features like cruise control, repair switch, reverse switch as well as Bluetooth connectivity.
