Volvo XC60 Becomes Brand’s Best-Selling Model Ever

- First-gen XC60 was introduced in 2008
- Replaces the Volvo 240 Series as Volvo's best selling car ever
- Second-gen XC60 launched globally in 2017
Volvo has announced that the XC60 SUV is its bestselling model ever. The company said that it has sold over 2.7 million units of the XC60 over its lifetime. The company added that the XC60 has also overtaken the Volvo 240 series in cumulative sales. The 240 Series was Volvo’s best-selling car to date and was sold in global markets from the 1970s through to the 1990s.

The second-gen XC60 received a second facelift earlier this year.
The XC60 was introduced in global markets in 2008, with the first generation of the SUV remaining on sale for almost a decade. The second-gen SUV arrived in 2017 and continues to remain on sale in markets across the globe – India included, where it was launched in late 2017. Over the years, the XC60 in India has received multiple updates from the introduction of performance-focused Polestar variants to the discontinuation of a diesel engine option and the move to mild-hybrid powertrains.

The SUV has also been a strong performer for the company in the Indian market, becoming the brand’s best-selling model in recent years. The SUV also received its second major facelift in global markets earlier this year, bringing with it updated styling along with upgraded tech such as a larger 11.2-inch touchscreen featuring the next-generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm for enhanced graphics and processing power.

The Gen 1 XC60 made its global debut in 2008.

Currently, the XC60 is sold in India in a sole Ultra trim level paired with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine replete with 48V mild-hybrid tech pushing out 247 bhp and 360 Nm. Power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, sending power to all four wheels. Prices for the SUV start at Rs 70.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
