F1: Hamilton Rules Silverstone as Bottas Impresses

Lewis Hamilton won his 27th F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone. The win was far less dramatic than the rest of the wins this season with team-mate Nico Rosberg out of the picture. Rosberg hit a gearbox problem on the 31st lap after having complained earlier of no feedback while downshifting. Hamilton took over after that and then there was no looking back.
He didn't face any threat from any of the other drivers, however, William's Valtteri Bottas impressed with his phenomenal run after from 17th to 2nd. The race came to a halt after a heavy crash for Kimi Raikkonen on the opening lap of the race caused a red flag. Raikkonen ran wide at Aintree at the start of the race and attempted to rejoin at racing speed but was launched slightly off the lip between grass and track and lost control, hitting the barrier on the Wellington Straight at high speed.
Felipe Massa was unsighted behind Kamui Kobayashi's Caterham and tried to pitch his Williams in to a spin to avoid contact but hit Raikkonen with his left rear wheel which saw him exit early on his 200th F1 race.
Daniel Ricciardo came in third for Red Bull Racing who was eight tenths ahead of Jenson Button. Button tried his best to catch up to the Australian driver as the British crowd hoped to see two countrymen on the podium. Button could not get past which saw him in fourth place.
Sebastien Vettel managed to get past Fernando Alonso with 5 laps to go. Vettel did have the straight line speed but Alonso did what he does best; defend. On a couple of occasions Vettel and Alonso almost brushed tyres but Alonso had no intentions of backing down. It was a great spectacle of defensive driving which saw Alonso concede to Vettel.
Kevin Magnussen came in 7th followed by Hulkenberg, Kvyat and Jean-Eric Vergne who rounded up the top 10.
This was Hamilton's second win at the British Grand Prix after 2008 and he will certainly cherish every bit of it. But the talent that Bottas has shown today will certainly reap benefits for Team Williams in the coming races. Hamilton won on his home turf and now things move to Rosberg's home - Hockenheim. Rosberg's thirst for revenge must have surely quadrupled as the championship table now shows Rosberg and Hamiton just 4 points apart. This is a race to the finish!
Here is a look at the championship table :-
1 Nico Rosberg 165
2 Lewis Hamilton 161
3 Daniel Ricciardo 98
4 Fernando Alonso 87
5 Valtteri Bottas 73
6 Sebastian Vettel 70
7 Nico Hulkenberg 63
8 Jenson Button 55
9 Kevin Magnussen 35
10 Felipe Massa 30
